Why it matters in this sector
On vessels and plants, cable selection is driven less by conductor size than by fire behaviour and environmental resistance. Flame retardant, halogen-free and fire-resistant types are classified against different standards, and picking the wrong one shows up at commissioning inspection.
Marine service adds salt air, vibration and oil contact resistance to the list. Power, control and instrumentation cables are routed separately to limit electromagnetic interference.

- Operating temperature range and ambient conditions (humidity, salt air, dust)
- Whether the viscosity grade suits the load and speed profile
