Which one to choose
The viscosity window stated by the equipment builder decides. If both products fall inside it, favour the higher grade for high load and high ambient temperature, and the lower grade where cold starting and low friction matter more.
Where it is used
In a hydraulic system the oil is the power transmission itself: pump efficiency, valve response and system cleanliness follow directly from its viscosity and filterability. On vessels the typical applications are deck cranes, steering gear and hatch systems.
For turbine oils the priorities are oxidation stability, water separation and foam control. Those properties decide service life and bearing safety.
